We Built This City
2016
We Built This City was an artist residency at the Gardiner Museum, where we introduced playful approaches to engage diverse communities in conversations about Toronto’s downtown core, with a focus on how we can animate, change and improve our everyday experiences in our physical spaces. Over the course of two (2) weeks, PROCESS team members (as Crazy Dames) worked with participants to create a scaled version of downtown Toronto neighbourhoods, built forts, and managed community-led walkshops as ways of reimagining our public spaces. The program coincided with the City of Toronto Planning Division’s TOcore Study, a study that looked at using growth in Toronto’s Downtown to make the city a great place to live, work, learn, play and invest. By drumming up excitement and interest through these arts-based methodologies, we were able to engage a diversity of participants who typically do not participate in city planning initiatives. We also managed online efforts through promotions on our website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
